With more than 48 years of legal and trial experience, Bill Bushnell has had a wide-ranging general practice dealing with wills, guardianships, estate planning, criminal law, general civil litigation, business law, domestic relations, personal injury, and real estate. He has served as lead counsel in many criminal and civil jury trials and has practiced in counties throughout Georgia as well as in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. He has also had numerous cases in Federal Courts of Georgia. Bill is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the local Western Circuit Bar Association. He has been a Registered Mediator in the State of Georgia.
A distinguished military honor graduate of The Citadel in 1967, Bill attended the University of Georgia School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1970.
He then attended the United States Army Judge Advocate Generals (“JAG”) Corps School in 1971 and then served as a JAG officer with the 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell Kentucky and subsequently served with the 4th Mechanized Infantry Division based at Fort Carson Colorado. As a JAG officer, he served as prosecutor and defense counsel in numerous general and special courts-martial. He also served in areas of claims and civil law when not trying military criminal matters.
Since his return to Athens with his family in 1978, Bill has been a fixture of the legal community, offering his wide range of experience as a counselor to and advocate for his clients. Bill’s concern for his clients’ well-being and passion for his work allows his representation to benefit the client and the case. He has devoted a large part of his practice to the trial of criminal and civil cases in all courts and to matters in the probate court on estate matters. He has practiced in real estate, business organizations and contracts, domestic relations, bankruptcy, social security, personal injury and environmental law. He has taught seminars and courses on a variety of subjects to educate his clients and the community. He has been a registered mediator allowing him a wide range of counseling and litigation skills to bring an experienced view to the resolution of disputes.
Bill has been an active member/elder of his church and community having participated in numerous civic and political organizations.
